Virtual Clinical Simulation Platform

WAOO is architecting an advanced, browser-accessible virtual simulation engine. Learners will engage with branching clinical scenarios: assessing chief complaints, requesting targeted investigations, interpreting angiograms and OCT B-scans, choosing surgical interventions, and receiving structured real-time pedagogical feedback.

01. Virtual Patient Encounter Dynamic symptom history taking with interactive questioning modules.
02. Diagnostic Ordering Rational test selection avoiding cost inefficiency and clinical over-investigation.
03. Decision Branching Medical therapy titration, laser parameters or surgical pathway selection.
04. Pedagogical Feedback Detailed debriefing comparing choices against international consensus guidelines.
SURGICAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Physical Wet-Lab & Microsurgical Curricula

Simulation bridges the critical gap between cognitive textbook knowledge and high-stakes intraoperative surgical performance.

ANTERIOR SEGMENT

Continuous Curvilinear Capsulorhexis (CCC)

Structured repetitive training on synthetic membranes and animal eye models. Mastering cystotome angles, vector control, rescue maneuvers for radial tear-outs, and hydrodissection dynamics.

  • • Force vectors & tear redirection techniques
  • • Managing pressurized intumescent bags
  • • Trypan blue vital staining drills
MICROSURGERY

Corneal & Scleral Suturing Precision

10-0 nylon and 9-0 virgin silk microsurgical manipulation under high magnification. Achieving uniform depth (90%), equal wound bite distance, radial entry angles, and tension calibration to eliminate astigmatism.

  • • Slip knot & 3-1-1 locking mechanisms
  • • Deep partial-thickness bite consistency
  • • Knot burial into stroma protocols
POSTERIOR SEGMENT

Vitrectomy & Membrane Peeling

Simulation models for wide-field viewing, trocar placement geometry, core vitrectomy cutter settings, and micro-forceps internal limiting membrane (ILM) pinch-and-peel kinematics.

  • • 23G, 25G and 27G fluidics optimization
  • • Triamcinolone-assisted hyaloid detachment
  • • Air-fluid exchange and gas endotamponade
OUR COMMITMENT

Zero Patient Risk During Early Learning

Complications in the operating theatre often arise during a trainee's initial learning curve. WAOO champions a model where novice surgeons perform dozens of simulation drills before operating on human tissue.

By combining affordable, locally accessible wet-lab models with standardized video evaluation rubrics, WAOO enables ophthalmology training centers in Pakistan and around the world to objectively assess surgical readiness.

The Deliberate Practice Framework

1
Clear Goal Setting

Defining specific micro-skills (e.g. initiating CCC with a bent needle) rather than entire procedures.

2
Repetition with Variation

Practicing normal anterior chambers, followed by shallow chambers and pseudoexfoliative weak zonules.

3
Immediate Expert Feedback

Video audit reviews by senior WAOO educators using standardized OSCAR rubrics.
